Interview with Joey Goblin

Interview with Joey Goblin

1.) How did the Mullets form? We came together to
embark on this bogus journey at County High in 1996,
our sophomore year. We were all on the basketball
team, but the coach said that our grades were just too
good, so he kicked us off. Without sports, we had no
other choice but to play music.

2.) What band influenced you the most and why? The
County High School band influenced us, as did
Screeching Weasel and the Dead Milkmen. The County
High band showed us the importance of teamwork.
Screeching Weasel showed us that rock can be simple
and still beautiful. The Dead Milkmen's bizarre sense
of humor kind of rubbed off on us.

3.) What is your favorite song off of Fork, Knife,
Spoon, Shut Up? "I Slept Through the Rapture" has a
special place in my heart. J.T. Posadas, who went to
North, plays his fiddle on it, and it's got a
bittersweet, emotional quality to it that makes it the
greatest song ever written.

4.) What's the best part about being a Mullet? The
chance to entertain people. Our music seems to make
people happy. I know growing up in Henderson (or
anywhere else for that matter) can really get a kid
down, and if we can make them smile for two minutes
with a song about Tony Danza or nudie dancing, then I
feel that our existence is justified. I also like the
free stuff that I get since I'm in a band.

5.) Most importantly, will there be any place in
Henderson for you guys to play since you can't at the
Denton Shelter anymore? I'm not aware of any places
to play. Most of the adults that own venues around
here aren't willing to let a bunch of teenagers
congregate to watch a punk band. I guess you can't
blame them, really. Maybe we could play at the Super
Wal-Mart that will never be built or at the old train
depot.
